Vitamin E, Selenium Don't Prevent Prostate Cancer

WASHINGTON—Vitamin E and selenium have proved ineffective in preventing prostate cancer and may pose a risk to users, according to a government study which has since ceased as a result of these findings. According to the Associated Press, early data collected from the study, the SELECT trial, showed that “neither supplement, taken alone or together,” is effective in “preventing prostate cancer.” Also of concern, “slightly more users of vitamin E alone were getting prostate cancer and slightly more selenium-only users were getting diabetes,” the National Cancer Institute told the Associated Press.
