Biopolymer Engineering Completes First Phase of Facility Development

EAGAN, Minn.--Biopolymer Engineering (www.biopolymer.com)completed the first phase of development on its new chitosan manufacturingfacility. The facility is located in Usulutan, El Salvador, and came online inNovember, 2001. Two additional development phases are planned to increase theplant's capacity to 2,000 tons of chitosan annually.

The facility will process chitin and chitosan from langoustino, a spinylobster prevalent in the coastal waters of El Salvador. Biopolymer noted that itsecured a majority of fishing rights for langostino from the El Salvadorgovernment. "We've implemented the latest technology and U.S. manufacturingstandards to ensure we deliver the highest quality product to ourcustomers," said Michael Catto, vice president of operations.
