Roche Receives Carotenoid Production Patent

PARSIPPANY, N.J.--Roche Vitamins Inc. in March received U.S. Patent No. 6,207,409, relating to fermentive carotenoid production. According to the patent filing, certain proteins of Flavobacterium sp. R1534 and the DNA sequences that encode these proteins provide an improved biosynthetic pathway from farnesyl pyrophosphate and isopentyl pyrophosphate to various carotenoid precursors andcarotenoids.
