Herb Specs, Prices Included in Medicinal News Service

GENEVA, Switzerland--Market News Service (MNS), part of the InternationalTrade Centre, has begun publication of a news extract on medicinal plants andextracts. The newsletter covers the five main producing and consuming regionsfor the products, including America, Europe, China, Japan and India. Among thecoverage for each section is regional demand, indicative raw material prices,product profiles and upcoming trade fairs.

In the American section of the second volume of the newsletter, the authorsdiscussed the area under cultivation for peppermint (lowest since 1988) and gaveprices for 17 different raw materials including saw palmetto, cultivatedgoldenseal and turmeric. The Japanese segment included coverage of the Foods forSpecified Health Use (FOSHU) and Japan's governmental review of Kampo medicines.
