ADM and Kao Form Joint Venture, Introduce New Product

DECATUR, Ill.--Archer Daniels Midland(ADM) (www.admworld.com) and Kao Corp. of Japan have formed a joint venture to manufacture and market diacylglycerol(DAG) oil in North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The new joint venture, called ADM KAOLLC, will be headquartered in Decatur, Ill., where plans for a pilot plant are currently being developed.

Originally manufactured by KAO, DAG oil has been shown in several Japanese clinical studies to help lower body fat content. The oil was designated as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by a panel of scientists and has been accepted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in vegetable oil spreads and cooking oil.
