Nature's Way Recalls Certain Lots of NettleProduct Containing Excessive Lead

SPRINGVILLE, Utah--Nature's Way Products Inc. (www.naturesway.com)recalled four lots of its Nature's Way brand Nettle capsules because theycontained excessive amounts of lead. The company stated the problem has beentraced to a single batch of raw material used to manufacture the currentlyrecalled products.

According to the Associated Press, Nature's Way first heard ofthe problem when the California attorney general's office contacted the companyafter a random testing program turned up the lead. In the meantime, the companyis working with the supplier to uncover how lead got into the products, althoughthe company did not elaborate how much excessive lead was found. No consumerhealth problems have been reported to the company.

The affected lots (131237, 131238, 140738 and 215229) weredistributed nationwide between October 2001 and May 2002. The capsules arepackaged in 100-count plastic bottles with green lids under the Nature's Waybrand.

Consumers who bought a product carrying these lot numbers cancall the company for a full refund at (800) 283-3323. Nature's Way did notreturn calls for comment by press time.
