New Stevia Blend with Sucrose-Like Taste

VANCOUVER, British ColombiaGLG Life Tech Corporation launched BlendSure at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) conference in Chicago. GLG researchers developed BlendSure by isolating various components of the stevia plant and then blending them in a proprietary ratio to deliver a consistent, balanced and sucrose-like taste profile that is both heat and pH stable, and works well in a carbonated beverage formulation.

BlendSure is a natural sweetener with zero calories, zero carbohydrates and a zero glycemic index. According to GLG, it is offered at a price-point comparable and competitive to sugar. The product can be used both in food and beverages, and as a tabletop sweetener. BlendSure also may be combined with other natural sweeteners, such as sugar.

BlendSure has met all of the requirements for self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and has received a letter of certification from GRAS Associates, whose experts specialize in the technical and regulatory aspects of obtaining and defending GRAS status for the food, supplement and chemical industries. BlendSure underwent and passed a rigorous safety review performed by GRAS Associates qualified panel of scientific experts in order to confirm the product meets FDAs (FDA) safety criteria. GLG will additionally file its dossier for a no-objection letter from the FDA in the near future.

Exceeding a total steviol glycosides reading of 95 percent, BlendSure also meets the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) international standard for stevia extracts.
