WARREN, Mich.Big Boy Restaurants, Inc. will permanently close a processing facility in Warren, Mich., and lay off 88 workers as a result of a September recall of almost 40,000 pounds of ready-to-eat meal kits due to Listeria concerns.
As reported by USAgNet, the company sent a letter earlier this month to the state Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth announcing the layoffs. The company had suspended operations in October as it investigated the source of the contamination which proved to be equipment it had purchased from a customer. Big Boy Restaurants said it was not economically feasible to correct the problem and resume operations.
