The Best R&D in Sports Nutrition

Most brands who offer sports nutrition products are well aware that these products cater far beyond bodybuilders and professional football players. These days, athletes come in all shapes, sizes and sports. And they all want the proper nutrition to fuel their activity of choice.

What’s not so easy for sports nutrition product brands to understand is researching the diverse athletic market and developing the next winning product.

The SupplySide R&D Insights Summit, held at SupplySide West 2014 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., can help brands looking for score big with their next sports nutrition product. It will take a look at the impact of R&D on the evolving sports/active nutrition market.

Underwritten by Ixoreal Biomed, this Summit will discuss how the mainstreaming of the sports nutrition market has created a void and an opportunity for product developers.

In the session, “Sports Nutrition Category Overview: Important Markets, Trends and Opportunities," Chris Schmidt, company analyst, consumer health, Euromonitor, will provide an overview of established and growth markets, a breakdown of the evolving consumer base and analysis of the important trends driving product development in this exciting space.

Gene Bruno, provost, Huntington College of Health Sciences, and director of category formulation, Twinlab; and Shawn Wells, director of R&D, BioTRUST Nutrition, will present, “The Choices of a Dietary Supplement Formulator," where they will discuss a formulation process approach that is likely to yield efficacious products.

The Summit is rounded out with the sessions, “The State of R&D in Sports Nutrition" with speaker Robert Wildman, Ph.D., chief science officer, Dymatize Nutrition, and “Adaptogens: The Potential Opportunity in Active Nutrition" with speaker Anand V. Bodapati, associate professor of marketing, UCLA Anderson School of Management.

The session will close with a 30-minute interactive open forum discussion, where attendees can pose their R&D questions to the experts.
