CFSAN 2003 Priorities

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--Joseph Levitt, director of theCenter for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), announced March 10 thedivision's 2003 fiscal year program priorities. His "A" listpriorities cover such industry concerns as health claims and dietary supplementregulation. CFSAN plans to publish guidance extending qualified health claims toconventional foods, to report to Congress on a health claim linking omega-3s insalmon with reversing heart disease and to develop a strategy for supplementscontaining ephedrine alkaloids based on the RAND report. Already, the agency hasmet certain goals, such as publishing a final rule for GMPs (good manufacturingpractices).
