Healthy INSIDER Podcast 16: SARMs in Sports NutritionHealthy INSIDER Podcast 16: SARMs in Sports Nutrition
Industry Attorney Rick Collins joins INSIDER's Steve Myers to discuss the popularity and legal status of bodybuilding's latest trendy ingredient.
Selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) are becoming popular in the sports nutrition market as an alternative to steroids and prohormones, but there are some serious questions about the legality of SARMs in dietary supplements. The attraction of SARMs is their ability to selectively stimulate the receptors for muscle development, but not those responsible for the negatuive side effects associated with steroids. However, these compounds are synthetic and are born from pharmaceutical pipelines, where they are being developed, and in some cases studied under Investigational New Drug (IND) applications, for use in serious health issues, including cancer.
In this podcast, INSIDER Managing Editor Steve Myers talks to sports industry veteran Rick Collins, partner with Collins, Gann, McCloskey & Barry PLLC. With years of experience as an attorney for numerous sports nutrition clients, Collins has his finger on the pulse of the latest ingredients, as well as the legal and regulatory issues drawing headlines.
In this episode, we will address these burning questions:
What are SARMs, and why are they on the sports nutrition market?
What is the legal status of SARMs in dietary supplements?
What has FDA done about SARMs?
How does the legal situation with SARMs compare to that of steroids and prohormones?
