Capsifen® by Akay Bioactives redefines weight management and sports performance – press release

Akay Bioactives, a global leader in natural bioactive ingredients, unveils groundbreaking clinical data on Capsifen® in Frontiers of Nutrition. This study showcases Capsifen®’s effectiveness in supporting healthy weight management and enhancing sports performance as a plant-sourced ergogenic aid. Capsifen® is a proprietary and clean sustained-intestinal delivery form of red chili pepper complex, utilizing FenuMat®, a patented self-emulsifying hydrogel technology. This innovative delivery system ensures the efficient absorption of capsaicinoids with improved bioavailability and masked pungency. In a 28-day study involving 105 healthy overweight participants, Capsifen® demonstrated a dose-dependent response, boosting energy expenditure, fat oxidation, and endurance. The FenuMat® formulation yielded significant benefits, including a reduction in body weight and enhanced time to exhaustion. These findings highlight Capsifen®'s potential to address overweight challenges by positively impacting energy balance and physical performance.

Capsifen® by Akay Bioactives redefines weight management and sports performance

March 27, 2024 – Akay Bioactives, a pioneer in harnessing the power of nature for human health, proudly presents groundbreaking clinical data featured in Frontiers in Nutrition (doi: 10.3389/fnut.2024.1348328) on Capsifen®. This proprietary and clean red chili pepper complex, formulated with FenuMat® technology, provides a pungency-free experience and ensures a consistent slow release of bioactives, optimizing overall bioavailability. Amidst the escalating global concerns regarding weight status, Capsifen® emerges as a game-changer in the pursuit of healthier lifestyles.

The clinical trial, employing a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, three-arm, three-sequence design, investigated Capsifen®'s impact on energy expenditure, fat oxidation, and endurance. The Quark C-PET system, a validated tool for cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPET), assessed these parameters. The study, conducted over 28 days on 105 healthy overweight participants (both men and women), showcased Capsifen®'s significant potential in influencing crucial weight management factors.

Capsifen® demonstrated a dose-dependent effect, correlating with increased energy expenditure and fat oxidation. Specifically, there was a substantial increase in both resting and exercise-induced energy expenditure, equating to approximately a 195-kcal increase for the 100 mg group and a 300-kcal increase for the 200 mg group. In contrast, the placebo group showed a decrease of -18.2 kcal in expenditure.

Resting energy expenditure for Capsifen® at 100 mg and 200 mg showed an 11-fold and 16-fold increase, respectively, compared to the placebo. Exercise-induced energy expenditure was 25-fold and 30-fold higher for Capsifen® 100 mg and 200 mg, respectively, compared to the placebo. Participants experienced significant weight (kg) reduction in both the 100 mg group (75.1 ± 5.4 vs. 71.5 ± 5.2) and 200 mg group (75.3 ± 5.3 vs. 70.7 ± 5.1), affirming Capsifen®'s efficacy in addressing overweight challenges.

Thermogenic effects were observed, with Capsifen® increasing body temperature by 1 to 2°C. Respiratory quotient analysis revealed a reduction in both resting and exercise-induced values for Capsifen® groups, indicating enhanced fat metabolism. Fat oxidation, calculated from the respiratory quotient, showed a 3-fold increase when Capsifen®’s dosage was doubled. Capsifen® 100 and 200 mg groups exhibited a 77.25% and 231.7% increase in fat oxidation compared to the placebo, respectively. Additionally, the Capsifen® 200 mg group displayed a 591% increase in fat oxidation compared to baseline and 185% compared to the placebo. Both Capsifen® 100 mg/day and 200 mg/day significantly enhanced endurance, with a 68.52% and 56.13% increase, respectively, in time to exhaustion.

"These results signify a breakthrough in our mission to provide innovative natural solutions for healthier living. Capsifen® stands as a testament to our commitment to advancing bioactive ingredients that make a real difference," stated Dr. Krishnakumar IM, Chief Research Officer at Akay Bioactives.

Capsifen® offers a promising avenue for individuals with a high body mass index, providing a holistic approach to energy balance and physical performance. Akay Bioactives remains at the forefront of bioactive research, continually striving to redefine health and wellness.

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 41.9% of U.S. adults grapple with overweight challenges—a prevalent, serious, and costly condition continually rising in the country. This puts strain on families, impacting health, healthcare costs, productivity, and military readiness. Encouraging a healthy diet and regular physical activity from an early age is crucial for weight management. The weight loss supplement market, valued at USD 33.4 billion in 2020, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 16.6% from 2021 to 2028 (Grand View Research). This underscores the need for safe and effective weight management products. Akay Bioactives aims to address this need with Capsifen®, a pungency-masked sustained-intestinal release formulation designed for optimal efficacy.
