CRN (UK) Hosts Healthy Aging Conference

LONDONThe Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) UK hosted a conference on nutrition and healthy aging in mid-November here. More than 100 delegates including executives and scientists attended the event, Nutrition, Healthy Ageing and Public Policy, which covered issues ranging from the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on cardiovascular health, cognition and joints to a public policy perspective on health care and nutritional support for the elderly.

Healthy ageing could be the key to reducing healthcare costs, said David Richardson, scientific advisor to CRN UK (CRN-UK.org). Safe nutritional interventions, including the greater use of food supplements, are effective ways to ensure the provision of micronutrients and other substances with beneficial physiological effects, to maximize the span of good health and to improve the quality of life of older people.
