These individuals are discerning about the quality and origin of the products they consume, citing increased transparency and clear labeling as being of interest, as well as a desire for sustainably sourced natural products and plant-based options. Consumer preferences, coupled with increasingly stringent regulations, are putting pressure on companies to deliver supply chain-integrity, scientifically substantiated and technology-backed products and transparent manufacturing practices at all stages of the production process.
Rigorous regulatory requirements and evolving consumer needs can present significant challenges for dietary supplement brands in terms of expertise, infrastructure and compliance. In many instances, contract manufacturing provides a viable and attractive solution. Contract manufacturers support companies in the industry that do not have the resources to safely develop and manufacture their products themselves. This relationship has several benefits, including the adherence to cGMP (current good manufacturing practice) regulations that are enforced by FDA, which ensure proper design, monitoring and control of manufacturing processes and facilities.
Contract manufacturing is increasingly valuable. Contract manufacturers not only aid with production but work with supplement brands to bring products to market from ideation, research, development, production and beyond. This enables companies to create products that meet evolving customer requirements where otherwise they may lack the resources to do so. The support can extend to part or all the development process. This ultimately results in better, safer products for the consumer.
