Neuravena® Supports Cognition

WADENSWIL, SwitzerlandFrutarom announced results from two in-house studies show its Neuravena® (EFLA®955) wild green oat extract enhances stress coping abilities and learning performance. In the first study, researchers assessed the impact of orally-administered Neuravena on electrical brain activity in rats; the extract had stimulating effects on brain activity in a dose-dependent manner. Results further suggested a stimulating effect on the dopaminergic transmitter system, supporting in vitro conclusions that Neuravena could inhibit the enzyme responsible for degradation of dopamine. A subsequent database comparison of the electrical fingerprint of Neuravena with the activity profiles of various drugs affecting the central nervous system revealed that Neuravena stimulates brain activity similar to pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of dementia.

The second study used a group of 12 rats that received 1 g/kg body weight of Neuravena for seven weeks; another group received a tenfold dose; and a control group was used for comparison. Results indicated enhanced stress coping abilities and alertness and improved general learning performance, speed of learning and positive social behavior. The study results were presented at the 55th International Congress of the Society for Medical Plant Research in Graz, Austria, held in September.
