The critical role of a mandatory product listing.
June 22, 2020
Date: Jul 28, 2023
The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) established a strong regulatory foundation for the dietary supplement industry, but the legislation did not address FDA’s inability to see into the marketplace. Today, the agency is unable to see how many products are on the market, how many products contain a single ingredient, and it lacks the visibility necessary to allocate resources effectively. During this session, attendees will learn how a mandatory product listing can shine a light on industry and promote increased transparency and accountability for the benefit of FDA, retailers, and ultimately consumers. Ms. Gustafson will describe what a mandatory product listing could entail for companies; discuss its role in addressing dietary supplement safety concerns; address criticism from the opposition; and present considerations for legislation. Attendees will gain further insight into how a mandatory product listing can contribute to creating a stronger and safer dietary supplement industry.
