News Desk: CRN Endorses Registry Concept

The registry endorsed by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) would allow manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements sold in the United States to catalogue their products in a database accessible to both regulators and consumers.

Steve Mister, president and CEO of CRN, said the decision is responding to “increased attention by regulators, by the media, by both FDA and state regulatory agencies about the transparency of the industry," and, “what we see as a legitimate concern that it’s hard to get your hands around the size of the industry, what products are out there, and what ingredients are in which products."

A concrete timeline for the registry has not yet been established, although Mister said it could be up and running by the middle of next year.
