Claims on the compositional content or putative health beenfits of foods are regulated in an increasing number of countries worldwide. Existing regulations and guidelines around health claims in Southeast Asia are not consistent, including definitions for the types of health claim that can be made. To support traditional medicines and health supplements in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, Member States are working on reducing the differences in national standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures. Dr Iain Brownlee, University of Newcastle, will be speaking about health claims in Southeast Asia in the Vitafoods Asia 2017 Conference in September and joins Jade Mitchell-Ross to introduce the topic.
