The Natural Products Association (NPA)’s newly elected council chairs, United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA)’s new members, and various personnel moves indicate further growth among industry organizations and companies.

The Natural Products Association (NPA) elected Carolyn Behrman of Natural Choices for Healthful Living in Columbus, Indiana, as the organization’s new retail council chair, while Frank Jaksch of ChromaDex in Irvine, California, was chosen to fill the role of supply council chair. Behrman and Jaksch will serve on the executive committee of the NPA board of directors. Behrman, founder and owner of Natural Choices for Healthful Living, has been part of NPA’s board for eight years, serving also on the governance, convention and communications committees. She served as a board member for NPA Midwest from 2001 to 2014, and is also a past president of the region. Frank Jaksch, CEO of ChromaDex, has served NPA as a board member since 2012.

The United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) also recently added doTERRA International as its newest executive member, and Waters Corp. as its newest science and technology services member. DoTERRA International produces and distributes Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG)® essential oils through more than a million independent distributors, also known as Wellness Advocates, in markets around the world. Waters Corp. designs, manufactures, sells and services ultra-performance liquid chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, chromatography columns and chemistry products, mass spectrometry systems, thermal analysis and rheometry instruments.

PLT Health Solutions Inc. appointed Barbara A. Davis, Ph.D., R.D., to the position of vice president, medical and scientific affairs. Davis brings more than 15 years of progressive consumer products company experience as a senior scientist, principal scientist and R&D director at global food and nutrition companies. Davis also gained experience at a consumer health and wellness insights research company and as a grant-funded academic scientist to her position at PLT. In her new role, Davis will continue to lead PLT’s scientific and regulatory efforts related to both the company’s existing ingredient portfolio and new ingredient development. In addition, she works with PLT customers in developing market-focused, evidenced-based value propositions for consumer brands. Davis has been with PLT Health Solutions since 2012.

Q Laboratories Inc. appointed its microbiology research and development laboratory supervisor Erin Crowley to the MicroVal Technical Committee. The Technical Committee is responsible for governing the validation studies performed through MicroVal, approval of the technical protocol for the validation studies, evaluation of the results of the validation studies, request for consideration of matrix extensions and/or inclusion of data from other studies, including from studies done under schemes other than MicroVal.

Another new industry hire includes Vincent Mariani, who Bio-Botanica appointed to chief strategy officer. Mariani comes to Bio-Botanica from GNC, where he served as senior vice president of store operations. He brings more than 25 years of industry experience in retail, brand building, product innovation, marketing and strategic planning. Mariani started his career at GNC as a part-time stock person back in 1989 and worked diligently over the last 25 years, where he held numerous roles within the organization.
