NBTY, Q Labs, HORN, Others Add Experienced Team Members

NBTY, Q Laboratories, HORN, American Botanical Council (ABC), NP Nutra and Orcas Naturals all recently expanded their teams, adding seasoned professionals to better position themselves within the industry.

NBTY appointed four senior executives to its management team: Andre Branch joined as chief marketing officer; Derek Bowen joined as senior vice president, general manager for vitamins, minerals, herbals and supplements (VMHS); Bradley Charron joined as senior vice president, general manager for sports and active nutrition; and Jill Staib was promoted into a newly created position, vice president of strategic initiatives and private label.

In addition, Q Laboratories hired Matthew Lemp as chemistry laboratory group leader for the company. Lemp will be responsible for sample flow through in the chemistry lab and will also have a role in analyst training and scheduling, new client development and expanding lab capabilities. 

HORN announced Erika Harvey joined the company as account manager, and John Jordan joined as logistics manager. Harvey brings 12 years of industry expertise to provide added sales support for HORN Nutraceuticals’ California territories, while Jordan brings 25 years of logistics and distribution expertise to ensure operational efficiencies in support of the company’s growth.

The nonprofit ABC welcomed 13 new expert members to its advisory board. They join 127 existing members, including 32 international experts. The new members will bring their perspectives and experiences from numerous scientific fields related to the study of medicinal plants, including ethnobotany, pharmacognosy, phytotherapy, pharmacy, organic and biochemistry, natural products research and more. The new members include: Valerie Assinewe, Ph.D., Alan Bensoussan, Ph.D., DipAc, Chantal Bergeron, Ph.D., Nadja Cech, Ph.D., Zoë Gardner Gabriel Giancaspro, Ph.D., Joerg Gruenwald, Ph.D., Pierre Selim Haddad, Ph.D., James Harnly, Ph.D., Michael Heinrich, Dr. rer. nat. habil, M.A., Dipl. Biol, FLS, Andrea Ottesen, Ph.D., Guido Pauli, Ph.D., FAPA, and  Alain Touwaide, Ph.D.,

NP Nutra appointed Helga Villanueva as director of quality assurance. Villanueva has more than 12 years of experience working in the industry. Prior to joining NP Nutra, Villanueva served as director of quality assurance for a California-based food manufacturing and dietary supplement company. During that time her role included reviewing, revising and  implementing company policies and procedures related to food safety and quality systems to meet the changing needs of customers, regulators and auditors, along with internal requirements to meet regulatory guidelines on different types of certifications.  

Michael Casciano recently joined Orcas Naturals as operations manager, bringing more than  20 years of experience in operations and management in the pharmaceutical industry. Casciano has experience with operations including: weighing, blending, granulation, compression, film coating, liquid, ointment and tableting, filling, terminal sterilization, aseptic processing, packaging and label issuance and revision control. The company also announced the promotion of Vijay Khadse as quality director, taking control of quality assurance and quality control.
