Maypro Announces Launch of new eye Health Ingredient, Bilberon

Maypro Industries is proud to announce its newest addition to its proprietary and branded ingredients portfolio, Bilberon™.

Maypro Industries is proud to announce its newest addition to its proprietary and branded ingredients portfolio, Bilberon™. Bilberon is a high-quality, clinically tested bilberry extract. Bilberon has been the subject of five original published studies –including two human clinical trials which have shown that Bilberon helps to alleviate eye fatigue, improve eye dryness, and maintain a clear focused vision.*

Bilberon is a 100% authentic, high-quality, clinically tested bilberry extract produced by Maypro’s partner, Tokiwa Phytochemical Company. Bilberon is made exclusively from Northern European bilberry fruit. Tokiwa has developed a technology that enables differentiation between bilberry — the only member of the blueberry family that has undergone considerable study in the field of eye health — and other species of blueberry.* The authenticated berries are then frozen and shipped to Japan, where they are crushed, concentrated, purified, and dried to make the naturally deep-purple powder that contains a minimum of 36 percent of antioxidant anthocyanins, which may help protect the delicate structures of the eye.*

Bilberry is one of the top-selling herbs in the United States, due to its reputation for supporting eye health.* However, unfortunately it is also one of the most adulterated. Because real bilberry is not cheap, disreputable ingredient manufacturers cut it with less expensive material, then spike it with anthocyanins from other sources and color it with dye so it can pass basic identity and visual inspection tests.

“We are excited to be working with Tokiwa to introduce Bilberon to the U.S. market,” said Dan Lifton, President of Maypro's Proprietary and Branded Ingredients division. “We hope that Bilberon’s launch will eliminate the common adulteration issues and hope that finished product manufacturers looking for a genuine, high-quality, and clinically tested bilberry extract will turn to Maypro.”
