Market Valuation of Probiotics Supplements
Global and U.S. Markets
The U.S. is the world’s most progressive marketplace for probiotics supplements, due to a positive regulatory environment. The U.S. produced $1.096 billion, over one-third of the global total of $3.226 billion.
Top 10 Countries in Probiotics Supplements
From 2011 to 2015, the U.S. consistently had the highest retail sales of probiotics supplements, reaching over $1 billion in 2016. China and Italy were the next highest selling countries, reaching $400 million and just over $200 million in 2016. The United State’s CAGR peaked in 2014 at about 20 percent.
The language of probiotics has been made consumer-friendly in the United States., promoting higher sales of probiotics supplements. Consumers now see the identification of friendly bugs, emphasis on the large numbers of colony-forming-units (CFUs) and promotion of long-lasting effects on many probiotics supplements.
Probiotic Delivery Systems
The way that consumers consume probiotics has evolved drastically, with companies producing innovative ways to deliver probiotics supplements including in beverages, chewable gummies and topical skin creams.
The Evolution of Probiotics
The traditional ways of consuming probiotics, such as tablets and powders, are being substituted by new delivery forms. Companies now offer probiotics supplements in yogurts, beverages, topical skin creams and liquid concentrates.
Some examples of these innovative ways to sell probiotics include nighttime oral care strips, topical mists and yogurt-infused chewable gummies.
Previously, brands used one approach to sell probiotic supplements. Today, however companies sell probiotics in many ways, and that includes breaking down which probiotic strain to take based on symptoms. Probiotic supplements are now marketed for oral care, heart health, digestive issues, weight management and more.
Projected Market Growth
The United States currently has the largest upward trend in retail sales of probiotics supplements, however it is predicted that the rest of the world will surpass the United States in prospective sales up to 2026. It is predicted that the United States will cap out just under $2 billion in 2026, while the rest of the world will reach up to almost $5 billion in the same year.
