LACEY, Wash.Unigen Inc. developed Bakutrol, a powerful triple-acting botanical skin care ingredient offering anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring benefits. Unigen is currently discussing licensing and supply agreements with leading manufacturers and marketers of skin care, fragrance, makeup and hair care products, and expects to see the ingredient incorporated into global offerings.

Bakutrol is an extract of Psolarea corylifolia, and contains bakuchiol, a compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria as well as the cyclooxgenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) inflammatory pathways. Clinical studies using Bakutrol found it could reduce both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions without adverse side effects found with many chemical treatments. Bakutrol also significantly reduces scarring or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is compatible in formulation with other acne care ingredients, such as salicylic acid, and can be used as an active agent in creams, lotions, gels, masks and other cosmetic products. Unigen has multiple global patents pending for Bakutrol.
