Evonik Industries, a specialty chemicals company based in Germany, has established a communication platform for cosmetic ingredient suppliers that focuses on transparency, quality and sustainability. CAREtain consists of three modules: toolbox, future profiling and evolution.
The CAREtain Toolbox contains raw material information. It maps 25 environmentally relevant factors for Evonik's cosmetic ingredients. Based on this information, customers can choose the ingredients according to individual requirements and design new formulation, allowing cosmetic manufacturers to distinguish themselves from their competition.
The future profiling module profiles new feedstocks, processes and applications in order to design a detailed profile of raw materials for the future. The evolution module targets innovation management. Qualification of all profiling parameters result in KPIs (key performance indicators), which describe the overall sustainability rating of a cosmetic ingredient, making it possible to track progress.
According to Evonik, CAREtain adds transparency to the supply chain and to the complete life cycle of a cosmetic products. The objective is to encourage customers to participate in creating innovative cosmetic products with lower environmental impact.
