SHAH ALAM, Malaysia—Biotropics Malaysia Berhad released a series of new products, research studies and information on company endeavors, just in time for SupplySide West 2014 in Las Vegas.

In the realm of functional foods and beverages, Biotropics has launched its Physta Coffee & Chocolate (Physta Indulgence), and Physta Fizzy sports drink formulation. For the anti-aging segment, the company’s Elassica line of skin care products comes formulated with researched Malaysian botanical herbs for wrinkle reduction and skin restoration. The main ingredient used (Lineminus) is clinically researched to reduce wrinkles (length, depth and amount).

Biotropics also released its Activated Virgin Coconut Oil, which offers natural antimicrobial activity in the form of shampoo or personal care products. The ingredient is suitable for manufacturers looking for a natural antibacterial ingredient, the company said.

Lastly, Biotropic launched its OEM products for men’s health, women’s health and general wellbeing.

New research on the company’s ingredients shows an extract of Eurycoma longifolia (Physta) and Polygonum minus can effectively improve males’ sexual performance and well-being (Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2014;2014:179529. doi: 10.1155/2014/179529). Also, phytoandrogenic properties of Eurycoma longifolia were studied, and researchers found the ingredient served as an effective, natural alternative to testosterone replacement therapy (Andrologia. 2014 Sep;46(7):708-21. doi: 10.1111/and.12214).

Other research studies confirmed the efficacy and safety of an extract of Labisia pumila var alata among pre- and postmenopausal women (J Med Food. 2014 Aug;17(8):929-38. doi: 10.1089/jmf.2013.2953), and confirmed the ingredient’s safety on the sexual well-being and lipid profile of the same demographic (African Journal of Biotechnology. 2014 Feb;13(6):768-77 doi: 10.5897/AJB2013.13457).

This month, Biotropics was involved in a sustainability project with indigenous people of Malaysia, and the company recently participated in the “adopt-an-herb" program with the American Botanical Council (ABC). Both initiatives helped develop Tongkat Ali as a safe, natural plant for health and wellbeing.

Some of the latest trends the company tapped into include non-GMO/biotechnology, anti-aging/healthy skin and sports nutrition. For more information, visit Biotropics at SupplySide (booth 16075).
