PITTSBURGH--The H.J. Heinz Company will create a new core category focusingon organic and nutritional foods. The new category will have a global reach,since the category is a "major growth opportunity for Heinz,"according to Heinz president and chief executive officer, William Johnson.

Heinz recently aligned with Hain Food Group and acquired Linda McCartney'sline of frozen organic foods [sold in the United Kingdom]. The company has alsopurchased nutritional beverage and infant food lines in India and Italy.
