ImmunoLin® Aids IBS Patients

ANKENY, IowaTaking ImmunoLin®, an immunoglobulin protein isolatemarketed for immune-enhancing effects, may reduce symptoms of Irritable BowelSyndrome (IBS) and improve quality of life, according to a proprietary studyconducted by Proliant (www.proliantinc.com), supplier of the material.

Researchers conducted a six-week, double blind study on 33 females and 18males aged 40 to 55 years, with diarrhea-predominant IBS. Subjects randomlyreceived one of three treatments: 10 g/d of ImmunoLin, 10 g/d of soy protein, ora combination of 5 g/d of ImmunoLin and 5 g/d of soy protein. IBS symptomsdecreased by 16 percent and 18 percent in the 5 g/d ImmunoLin and 10 g/dImmunoLin groups, respectively, compared to the soy protein control group. And,from the fourth through sixth weeks, overall days with symptoms decreased by 24percent in the 10 g/d Immunolin group compared to the soy control group.

We may need to do a longer study because results were improving as thestudy progressed, said Eric Weaver, Ph.D., lead researcher. People who struggle with IBSoften feel they have sensitivity to dairy and animal proteins and the studyshows ImmunoLin is a safe option for them.
