EAS Releases EU Marketing Guide

BRUSSELS, Belgium—EAS, a European-based consulting firm, released a new guide to help companies enter the European Union’s (EU) nutritional products market. “Marketing Food Supplements, Fortified Foods and Functional Products in Europe: Legislation and Practice 2008” provides a detailed analysis of the EU and national regulations for food supplements, fortified and functional foods in all 27 EU member states, plus Norway, Russia, Switzerland and Turkey. The guide also includes a summary of recent developments, including nutrient fortification, novel foods, allergen labeling, and nutrition and health claim requirements.

“Rules differ among the EU member states on many aspects, from the permitted use of certain nutrients and herbal ingredients in food supplements and fortified/functional foods, to details on new product notification requirements and national approaches toward derogations for vitamins and minerals,” said Katarina Wagner, EAS regulatory affairs manager, nutritional products.
