New launches were announced from ingredient and packaging companies.

InterHealth Nutraceuticals Inc. launched a new heart health ingredient, CardiaSlim®, that is a patented blend of Sphaeranthus indicus and Garcinia mangostana. InterHealth said three randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled studies showed  CardiaSlim improved cardiovascular health by supporting healthy blood lipid levels and body weight. Research on CardiaSlim incorporated a diet and exercise plan for an overall lifestyle approach to heart health.

The research on CardiaSlim was conducted on healthy, overweight people with cholesterol levels in the high end of the normal range. The company noted the ingredient supported healthy LDL (low density lipoprotein) and total cholesterol levels, supported healthy HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels, supported healthy triglyceride levels, promoted weight loss, and reduced hip and waist size.

Flo Chemical Corp released FloZein BoxCoat™—edible coatings that protect paper and boxboard—and FloZein ProteinCoat™— edible coatings to protect raw proteins. Boxes produced with FloZein BoxCoat are recyclable and have oil and grease resistance. FloZein ProteinCoat will be marketed to the global poultry, meat and seafood industries. The company’s FloZein™ is an edible carrier material, which controls moisture migration and serves as an antimicrobial on surfaces that come in contact with vegetable, fruits and raw meats.  All of FloZein™ products share are GRAS (generally recognized as safe), non-GMO, vegan, kosher, halal compliant, tasteless and biodegradable. FloZein products have been primary incorporated into food and pharmaceutical products by customers including, Mars Inc., Merck and Actavis.
