Listeria, Staph Sparks String Cheese Recall in CA

WASHINGTONSurtex Foods Co., based in Los Angeles, is recalling Oaxaca string Cheese La Original because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Jan. 10.

The recall involves Oaxaca String Cheese La Original" sold in a 17.63-ounce clear package with UPC code 8 90512 00104 2, Lot # 1360912 and an expiration date of Jan. 9, 2011. The affected products were distributed in California through retail stores and distributors.
