August 2017: At SupplySide West, SternMaid America will showcase its extended service portfolio for the contract manufacturing and co-packing of functional foods, dietary supplements, dry beverage bases and sports nutrition products. The company’s state-of-the-art microblending plant can be used to meet all manner of different production requirements. In addition, recent kosher and halal certifications enable the company to process products for a wider array of target groups. To fulfill growing demand from the food and nutraceutical industries, the contract manufacturer has installed a modern double-head system to increase the capacity of its can filling line and will commission a pilot blender in September for small batches and trial runs. Among its co-packing options, SternMaid America will also present stick packs.

Stick packs respond to today’s consumer desire for convenient, on-the-go packaging. These single-dose units in multiple sizes can be easily filled with granular products such as sugar, salt, pepper or instant drinks.

Jan Thoele, Executive Vice President of SternMaid America, explains: “As a provider of
co-packing services, we are constantly widening our range of retail packs to include new sizes and types of packaging that meet the latest trends. When planning our filling lines, we deliberately decided on a modular system in which each unit can be integrated into any of our packaging lines. This gives us maximum flexibility, as the compatible individual elements make it easy for us to switch from one product to another quickly and safely.”

All-round services from one source

The company’s semi-automated blending line is able to mix order sizes from 500 lbs to over 22,000 lbs with a precision of 1:100,000, which distributes micro-components such as flavors and emulsifiers very finely. In this way, it is possible, for example, to add probiotics, vitamins and minerals to foods, and larger amounts of fats and highly viscous liquids such as lecithin can be fed in, too.

Besides blending and filling, SternMaid America offers further customized services ranging from raw material purchasing and warehousing to delivery of finished goods. On a product-by-product basis, the company can also offer non-GMO, gluten-free and/or vegan certified foods.
