Fun Run with Olympians

Rower Susan Francia, decathlete Bryan Clay, INSIDER editor Sandy Almendarez, and triathletes Laura Bennett and Greg Bennett after the Bioenergy fun run at SupplySide West 2012.

SupplySide West attendees got to run with Olympians before the show floor opened this morning at a fun run hosted by Bioenergy Life Sciences. I normally never get a workout or fresh air during SupplySide West, so I didnt miss this chance.

About 30 runners joined me at 7 a.m. for a 2.5-mile run/jog/walk. Four of those runners mean business; they are Olympic athletes. I was honored to run with decathlete Bryan Clay, rower Susan Francia and triathlete power couple Laura and Greg Bennett. All four of them are members of Team Ribose.

I completed my first triathlon in September 2012, and I loved it. My tri was a sprint distance (half-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run), so the fact that they have both completed Ironman tris (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run) and competed at the Olympics (0.93-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run) is so inspiring to me. Laura even placed fourth in the womens triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics (Im in awe of her).

I hope running with Olympians got a little star dust on me, so I can increase my performance. Actually, they dont run on star power; these athletes use supplements to help them stay in the best condition when they are in training. INSIDER recently spoke with Francia and Laura Bennett about their supplement use.

The fun run was a great way to start my SupplySide West. I felt empowered to take on the show floor with new vigor. I hope this becomes a yearly event. If so, you should join me and the star athletes.
