Creatine Chews Offer Alternative, Especially to Women

SALT LAKE CITY--LifeSmart Nutrition, which partnered with Upland Energy Corp., filed a 44-claim patent for its Creatine Soft Chews. According to the company (www.lifesmart.com), the supplement is made ofultra-micronized creatine that is manufactured without any liquid touching it, which allows for a stable end product.

"The soft-chew system is a unique system that has boded well for the industry, as Mead Johnson Nutritionals' Viactiv has shown," said Darren Lopez, vice president of operations at LifeSmart. As a chew, the creatine particles are small enough to be absorbed sublingually.

Lopez also added that people can get more results more quickly from a smaller dosage of creatine. For the moderate athlete, the practice of consuming 5 g/day of creatine has been widely marketed. Comparatively, Creatine Soft Chews offer only one gram of creatine per chew to be taken twice a day. Currently, the company is testing its chews on individual athletes, but it plans to formally test its chews in clinical trials beginning in September.

"This chew is something that is more convenient than a powder, especially for women," Lopez stated, adding that the chews come in chocolate, mocha and orange cream flavors. "I think that women will not give up taste for nutrition."
