Carnipure For Post Exercise Stress

STORRS, Conn.L-carnitine L-tartrate (Carnipure, from Lonza Inc.) was effective in attenuating metabolic stress and the hypoxic chain of events leading to muscle damage after exercise; the study follows a similar one done by the same researchers showing 2 g/d of Carnipure promotes recovery after exercise. In the new randomized study, published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (DOI:10.1519/R-22076.1), eight healthy men (averaging 22 years, 174 cm, 83 kg) were supplemented with 0, 1 and 2 g of Carnipure then performed resistance exercise consisting of five sets of 15 to 20 repetition maximum (with a two-minute rest between sets); blood was then drawn. Done over a three-week period in a balanced, repeated measures design, results showed serum carnitine concentrations increased (p < or = 0.05) following the 1 and 2 g doses, with the 2-g dose providing the highest carnitine concentrations. Researchers concluded 1 and 2 g Carnipure (www.carnipure.com) was effective in reducing post-exercise serum hypoxanthine, serum xanthine oxidase, serum myoglobin, and perceived muscle sorenessthus effective in mediating various markers of metabolic stress and of muscle soreness.
