As sports nutrition expands its consumer base into all types of active consumers, new demands are driving innovative trends in the RTD space, including low sugar, natural ingredients and a desire for more than just a jolt of caffeine. At the same time, the growing importance of cognitive health and performance among athletes and active consumers has created an opportunistic market for RTDs that support increased focus, which goes hand in hand with energy for many of those new consumers. Protein is an ingredient driving change in drinks as well, with plant proteins like pea, rice, flaxseed and pumpkin broadening the market and formulators innovating to solve taste, solubility and mouthfeel challenges.
