Consumers have many choices in terms of how they will get their nutrients. Tablets and capsules remain abundant, but the market has seen an uptick in alternative delivery forms, including gummies, powders and functional foods and beverages.

The ability to put a given ingredient into an alternative delivery form is often a technological challenge, as well as a financial one. The best formulators address numerous considerations such as quality, price, efficacy, consumer appeal, regulations and scientific basis.

SupplySide West is offering a special workshop on alternative delivery system considerations. The event will feature industry experts on the latest delivery forms and the associated market and legal influences.

Lauren Clardy, managing director of NUTRIMARKETING, will discuss new and novel delivery technologies and the impact of taste, dose, bioactivity, cost and other considerations.

Lynn Dornblaser, director of innovation and insight for Mintel International, will explore the consumer mindset on supplements and other nutritional products, looking at what is driving demand. She’ll also review the current market trends in delivery, with an eye towards product development possibilities.

Attorney Justin Prochnow, shareholder with Greenberg Traurig LLP, will provide a legal perspective on nutrition delivery, especially dietary supplements. He will look at cutting-edge and novel delivery methods relative to viability and FDA’s regulatory tendencies on new delivery technologies. Expect to see some key warning letters and enforcement action information in this sessions.

The “Alternative Delivery Systems Workshop: Selecting the Right Technologies to Deliver on Consumer Expectations" is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2014, 8:30am to 11:30am in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, and is sponsored by Ayanda and Nutraceutix. The workshop requires special registration from the main trade show. You can register in advance through the SupplySide West registration site, or you can register the morning of the workshop from 7:30am to 10am.
