The supplement industry has endured the good, the bad and the ugly in 2015. Second-quarter results were no different.

Companies such as Herbalife and Nu Skin Enterprises had good news to report in their second-quarter results, while companies such as GNC and Vitamin Shoppe reported underwhelming feedback. News wasn’t all bad for GNC, however. The company celebrated a climbing stock price starting in July and has captivated analysts with a plan to convert more company-owned stores to franchise locations.

And sluggish sales aren’t the only source of bad news in the industry. State and federal regulators have been investigating a number of retailers and marketers. NBTY, for instance, is among several national retailers that have been under investigation by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. In recent letters addressed to Schneiderman and Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller, FDA schooled the attorneys general on supplement regulations.
