In recent years, FDA has issued warning letters to several companies in the human and companion animal markets regarding claims for products containing cannabidiol (CBD). In this edition of the Healthy INSIDER podcast, Karen Butler, content marketing manager, speaks with Bill Bookout, founding member and president of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). With a focus on CBD in products for companion animals, they discuss:

• Related players and factors such as FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), drug approvals, GRAS (generally recognized as safe), the Farm Bill, and the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA)

• The relationship of marijuana, hemp and CBD, and the general status of using CBD in companion animal products

• Advice for companies looking to launch products in this space

• The upcoming NASC annual conference, which features a session devoted to CBD, as well as a legal Q&A panel
