The convergence of functional nutrition and mainstream food and beverage products continues, and this trend was prominent at IFT15. Functional ingredients such as fiber, protein, vitamins/minerals, probiotics/prebiotics and others were featured at IFT for their potential in food and beverage products.
For example, Oregon-based PowderPure highlighted its line of natural vegetable and fruit powders for use in foods and dietary supplements. The powders are created utilizing the company’s Infidri™ drying technology, which allows the powders to retain 100 percent of the nutritional value of fresh fruits and vegetables.
AIDP announced the results of new study at IFT15, which showed its PreticX prebiotic, a gluten-free, non-GMO xylooligosacchride, helps to create the appropriate balance of good and bad bacteria in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which enables probiotics to grow and flourish. The prebiotic was featured in a lemonade beverage (pictured above) at the show.
