Healthy INSIDER Podcast 67: U.S. Health Care Bill May Clear Way for Supplements in HSAs

The fate of the future of American health care hangs in the Senate, but the House-passed American Health Care Act may be one step closer to getting supplements included in health savings accounts (HSA) and/or flexible spending accounts (FSA). Jay Hawkins, partner, Alpine Group, noted that the new health care bill overrides the provision in the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a., Obamacare) that removed over the counter (OTC) products from eligible HAS/FSA purchases. Hawkins, who spoke at the Ingredient Marketplace featured panel discussion “NDIs, FTC and More: Navigating the Changes Posed by a New Administration,” discusses the new potential role for supplements in health care with Sandy Almendarez, editor in chief, INSIDER, in this podcast. They also cover:

  • How President Donald Trump is an unconventional leader, but the typical Republican personnel he appoints to top government positions allows the industry to better assume how the political landscape will function.
  • The expected movement of the new dietary ingredient (NDI) draft guidance.
  • Where supplement brands should focus their attention now to best further their business and the industry.
