CUPERTINO, Calif.—UL ClearView, an online platform designed to help supplement manufacturers demonstrate their quality programs to retail buyers, was introduced by Information & Insights, a division of UL, a global science safety company.

The ClearView program is offered in three tiers designed to give manufacturers and retailers options for their level of quality needs:

  • UL Registration—includes formula registration and initial content testing, information on disposal and transportation requirements, and annual content testing.
  • UL Qualification—includes the services of UL Registration as well as a yearly GMP (good manufacturing practice) audits (from UL or a different qualified third party) and shelf surveillance testing every six months.
  • UL Validation—includes the services of UL Qualification plus a label review, GMP audit from UL, production surveillance audit (onsite or offsite) and production lot testing. Michael O’Hara, general manager of global nutraceuticals for UL, said UL is in the process of developing a UL ClearView label seal for manufacturers enrolled in its Validation program.

“We are extremely excited about giving folks the easy-to-use visual, informative ClearView Platform," O’Hara said. “It’s going to be a great help to the industry. It is a new approach that’s been received positivity by everyone we’ve talked to, so now we’re ready to execute it."

O’Hara said UL ClearView is also looking at a business-to-consumer program to roll out in the future, which would allow consumers choose UL registered products.
