Cargill Expands Xanthan Gum Production
MINNEAPOLISCargill Inc. (www.cargill.com) is expanding its Zibo xanthan gum production facility in Shandong Province in the Peoples Republic of China. The first phase of the expansion (to be completed in early 2004) will increase xanthan gum production capacity to more than 5,000 metric tons, and will include a new analytical laboratory, wastewater treatment plant and processing modifications to improve plant operating efficiencies. It will also incorporate U.S. good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
In other company news, Cargill Health & Food Technologies launched a new Web site to increase consumer awareness for its Corowise phytosterols (www.corowise.com).
