PMS Alternatives Promoted
WASHINGTON--Evening primrose oil, chaste tree berry and dong quai may be effective alternative treatments for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) according to research presented at an American Pharmaceutical Association (AphA) conference in mid-March. "I find this a better alternative than using antidepressants when the problem is a hormonal one," said Dr. Mary Hard, medical director of the Cedars-Sinai Integrative Medicine Medical Group.
The information presented at the conference was a collaboration of previous research findings. Primrose oil was found to relieve breast tenderness, a symptom of PMS. Chaste tree berry and dong quai reduced other symptoms of PMS. For further details, visit www.aphanet.org.
