FAIR LAWN, N.J.--Lonza Inc. (www.lonzagroup.com)signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Hamari Chemicals Ltd. in Osaka,Japan, to market Hamari's PepZin GI ingredient in North America and Europe.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the sale, after reviewof a new dietary ingredient submission, of the patented zinc-carnosine complex.PepZin GI has been used in Japan for more than a decade as anulcer-healing drug under the generic name polaprezinc. Hamari holds severalpatents on the compound, including the molecule itself. The ingredient is acoordination complex of zinc with dipeptide L-carnosine.
