Dark Low Sulfite Powdered Caramel Color

SKOKIE, Ill.Sethness Products Company launched P600, its darkest low sulfite Class III powdered caramel color, to allow food formulators to keep sulfite content to a minimum in a multitude of applications.

The caramel color is 30% darker than Sethness darkest low-sulfite powdered caramel color (P450); positively charged with no sulfite reactants; greater in strength for lower usage levels and less inventory; and label-friendly, staying below FDA labeling sulfite threshold of 10 ppm.

Our new P600 Class III powdered caramel color may eliminate the need to list sulfite as an allergen on product labels," said Dave Tuescher, technical director, Sethness. Sulfite is a sensitizing agent, and in some countries, like Canada, it is included in the allergens list."

P600 can be used in a variety of applications, including meats, spice blends, TVP/HVP, cereals, baked goods and cocoa extenders.

Sethness opened a manufacturing plant in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, China, called Sethness-Roquette Food Ingredients, Co. Ltd. (SRC) in 2011, marking the second joint venture between Sethness and Roquette Frères of France.
