SupplySide West trends: CBD & DSHEA turns 25 – podcast

At SupplySide West 2019 in Las Vegas, an entire day was devoted to issues affecting the hemp-based CBD industry. Industry experts all gathered to discuss the 25th anniversary of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA).

Josh Long, legal and regulatory editor with Informa Markets, which hosts SupplySide West and publishes Natural Products INSIDER, was onsite to cover these macro issues. In this podcast with content director Sandy Almendarez, Long discusses:

The complexities of CBD and immense demand for the compound.

The urgent need to clarify legal issues around CBD.

FDA’s enforcement activities to date and concerns recently expressed by the agency about consumption of CBD by pregnant women.

The success of DSHEA after 25 years.

And the pain points of the law, including the new dietary ingredient notification requirement.
