Nutrient Combo Attenuates Exercise-Induced Inflammation
GAINESVILLE, Fla.--A nutrient combo may reduce exercise-induced inflammation, according to research out of the University of Florida and appearing in the December Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (35, 12:2032-7, 2003) (www.ms-se.com). Researchers administered to 40 healthy, untrained males either a placebo or a supplement containing mixed tocopherols, flavonoids and the omega-3, docosahexaenoate (DHA). Cell damage was assessed during range of motion tests and perceived pain measurements during eccentric arm curl exercises. The researchers concluded the supplement positively influenced inflammatory mediators such as C-reactive protein and interleukin-6.
