NBA Bans Androstenedione

NEW YORK--The NBA and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) ProhibitedSubstances Committee issued a joint statement March 30 that nine steroids had been addedto its banned substances list, including androstenedione. "It is a fundamental partof our agreement that a committee of experts would periodically review and update the listof banned substances," said NBA deputy commissioner, Russ Granik.

Other substances banned include dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), nandrolone andtestosterone. Players will be subject to testing for these substances beginning October2000. For more information visit www.nba.com.
