Exciting new research and ingredients launching into the market have companies such as Medicus Research, Stratum Nutrition and OmniActive Health Technologies celebrating their victories.

One major victory occurred at the 2015 Scripps 12th Annual Natural Supplements Conference, where Medicus Research received first, second and third place honors for scientific posters. The winners were chosen through a peer review process, which involved selecting the most relevant abstracts and scientific posters that presented a concise, clinically relevant overview of their evidence-based research. Medicus Research’s poster for “The Effects of a Proprietary Blend of Natural Enzymes on Cardiovascular Health: An Open-Label Study," which exhibited the positive results for Arthur Andrew Medical’s dietary supplement, Neprinol, achieved first place. Second place honors went to the poster entry for Allysian Sciences’ “The Effects of a Proprietary Dietary Supplement Formula on Cognitive Function: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, remote study." The study results showed that MasterMindä neurotrophic dietary supplement was effective in improving memory in healthy volunteers. Medicus Research’s third-place poster was titled, “Efficacy of a Proprietary Methylsulfonylmethane Treatment for Allergic Rhinitis Induced by a Standardized Allergen." The poster detailed how a recent randomized, controlled study demonstrated that the MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) used in the study (OptiMSM®) provided significant relief from allergic rhinitis symptoms (nasal allergy).

Stratum Nutrition has also been involved in new research, and the company announced a study on BLIS M18™ was recently published in the International Journal of Pharma and Bio ScienceBLIS M18 is a probiotic member of the bacterial species Streptococcus salivarius, and it is known to support oral and periodontal health. The results of this clinical trial, involving 28 adult volunteers, demonstrated significant improvements in periodontal health in the BLIS M18 group following one month of probiotic BLIS M18 lozenge consumption. Interestingly, despite always remaining healthier than the control group, periodontal health gradually declined following cessation of BLIS M18 dosing, demonstrating the need for regular consumption of the probiotic for sustainable health benefits.

Another ingredient, Gingever™ High Potency Ginger by OmniActive Health Technologies, will be introduced for the first time to Engredea attendees at this year’s show, March 5 to 8, 2015, in Anaheim, California, in conjunction with Expo West. Non-GMO and allergen-free Gingever™ is a high-potency super-critical fluid extract with 30 percent bioactives (minimum 20 percent gingerols) made from an FDA-acknowledged GRAS (generally regarded as safe) source. Gingever is produced without the use of harsh solvents and manufactured under strict quality programs including cGMP and ISO 22000: 2005.
