DANSHUEI, TaiwanIn a recent study, a specialized extract of Antrodia camphorata (AC; Antroquinonol®, from Golden Biotech) was found to induce an arrest of cell cycle at the G1 phase and induce subsequent apoptosis in pancreatic cancer AsPC-1 cells (J Nutr Biochem, 2011; DOI: 10.1016/j.jnutbio.2011.04.015). This specialty extract of AC, a fungal parasite known as Nuchang mushroom, was previously found to exert similar effects against human hepatocellular carcinoma cells, by activating AMPK and inhibiting the mTOR translational pathway (Biochem Pharmacol, 2009; DOI: 10.1016/j.bcp.2009.08.022).
